Roundtable Stability Operations – Lessons Learned

On 18 th April 2008 a roundtable on Stability Operations – Lessons Learned was held on the initiative of the G. C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies and G. S. Rakovski Defense and Staff College .
The participants in the event were officers and civilians from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior Affairs who have attended courses in the G. C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.

The meeting was opened by the Commandant of G. S. Rakovski Defense and Staff College, Major General Evgeni Manev, and the participants were addressed by the Deputy Minister of Defense Mr. Simeon Nikolov. Dr Petio Petev, Director of NATO and International Security Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, familiarized the audience with the results achieved so far in NATO-led operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

His Excellency Valeri Rachev, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Iraq, and Col James Howcroft from the Marshall Centre were honorary guests and key speakers at the roundtable. Ms Barbara Wither from the Marshall Centre was also among the guests.
Ambassador Valeri Rachev delivered a lecture on the political aspects of the stability operations in Iraq and Col Howcroft reviewed the military aspects of the stability operations in Iraq .
